Philanthropy

Delta Gamma women recognize that it is important to follow our motto: Do Good. Each year, DGs dedicate hundreds of hours to Service for Sight. Our philanthropy is the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and we have a life long goal to aid people who are visually impaired. We also support the Delta Gamma Foundation which provides resources for educational growth and philanthropic service for all members. New this year, we hope to sponsor some puppies with the BC Guide Dog Services so they can be trained to help those with visual impairments.

Delta Gamma’s are constantly volunteering their time. Each year, we hold numerous events to help raise awareness and money for our charities. Some events include:

*DG Denim: Where designer jeans are sold for inexpensive prices with a portion of the proceeds going to charity.

*Delta Gambling: In a partnership with the fraternity Sigma Chi, we host a casino-themed Texas Hold Em' benefit poker tournament.

*Holiday Dinner: A delicious home-cooked benefit dinner.

*Anchor Splash: This is the largest philanthropic event on campus, and internationally celebrated across Delta Gamma chapters. This year, our theme is ‘Pirates’ and will include a series of fun swimming relays and very entertaining synchronized swimming performances. There will also be yummy ‘pirate’ food and drinks, 50/50 and a silent auction.

Apart from these fun events, DG’s always manage to find other ways to promote Service for Sight. Handing out eye saving tips around campus, painting dog bowls to be donated to seeing-eye dogs, helping at the CNIB Children’s Christmas party and recording audio tapes at the UBC Crane Library are just a few ways that we try to make a difference.

With all this happening, the amazing ladies of Delta Gamma still find time to volunteer outside of Delta Gamma, including volunteer trips to Africa and Asia, helping out at local hospitals, volunteering with day camps and many other charity organizations. We also support every other Greek event on campus. Delta’ Gamma’s dedication to philanthropy is something that has brought us together and set us apart from any other organization. DG’s love to find innovative ways to raise money and to help out, but just as importantly have tons of fun doing so!
